Arizona Unites in the Fight Against Breast Cancer With 24th Annual Susan G. Komen Phoenix Race for the Cure®
PHOENIX – Arizona (PRWEB) September 29, 2016 -- As the signature fundraising and awareness event for Komen Arizona in Phoenix, the Race for the Cure invites supporters of all ages with an opportunity to combat breast cancer by running, walking, fundraising and even sleeping in. This year’s Race activities include a one mile run/walk, a 5k walk/run, and a breast cancer survivors’ ceremony. Participants can opt to challenge themselves through timed competition and those who cannot make it to the Race can Sleep In for the Cure®. We are also excited to bring a new dimension to the race this year that will be sure to inspire and empower! By registering for the race, participants will enjoy We Are More than Pink: A Live Storytelling Event, hosted by Megan Finnerty, which will showcase three local community members and their unique perspectives on how breast cancer has impacted their lives.
“Every year, we see Arizonans come together for the Race to support a single cause,” said Komen Arizona Executive Director Heather Roberts. “We each have our own reasons for joining in the fight against breast cancer, so the unity on Race Day is really special and inspirational. Our theme for the Phoenix Arizona Race this year is ‘Race On. Fight On. which we hope encourages the community to continue to keep fighting on to beat this disease.”
One hundred percent of donations are committed to the Komen Promise. Seventy-five percent of all funds raised stay in Arizona to fund local breast cancer education, screening, and treatment programs, while the remaining 25 percent is contributed to Komen’s leading international breast cancer research program.
In December 2015, Komen Arizona was formed through merging the Susan G. Komen affiliates of Central and Northern Arizona and Southern Arizona. As a merged Affiliate, Komen Arizona has raised more than $34.5 million for local breast cancer support and research advancements to date.

Komen Arizona is working to better the lives of those facing breast cancer in the local community.
