From Renaissance masterpieces to contemporary installations, art and wine come together at this year's Vinitaly, held in Verona from 2-5 April 2023. Works by Caravaggio and Guido Reni, as well as by contemporary artist Sarah Heller, will be on display throughout the event, giving attendees a rare opportunity to see first-hand these remarkable works of art that demonstrate the close links between art and wine in the Italian cultural tradition.
VERONA, Italy, March 30, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Italian government has authorized the temporary loan of two significant works of art from their permanent home in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. Both the masterpieces selected for display at Vinitaly depict Bacchus, the ancient god of wine, and will provide a striking artistic backdrop to the world's largest international wine fair. The two priceless canvases will be on display at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty's stand from 2-5 April.
Meanwhile, an exhibition by visual artist and Master of Wine Sarah Heller will give attendees the opportunity to enjoy a more contemporary interpretation of wine and the feelings it evokes. Guests can also hear directly from the artist herself as Sarah Heller shares the sensations, emotions and intentions behind her work, along with a specially selected wine list, at a Vinitaly tasting event on Tuesday 4 April at 10.30 am.
Commenting on the links between wine and art, Sarah Heller explained: "Wine and art have a long-shared history that I am delighted to see being celebrated at Vinitaly this year. Both are sensuous pleasures first but with the power to elevate and reconnect us with deeper facets of human existence than we regularly encounter in our day to day lives."
She continued: "Coming from a fine art background, I have always relied on visuals to make sense of the world. I felt language - particularly the purportedly objective, analytical prose favored by most formal wine education - was a clumsy tool for capturing what is truly magical about wine. After completing my wine studies, I returned to visual art to help express the deeply subjective sensations, emotions and memories that drinking wine can stimulate."
Admission to Sarah Heller's tasting, Envisioned Icons: Visual tasting notes of iconic Italian wines, is by invitation only. Further information is available at: https://liveshop.vinitaly.com/.
