Arts Luncheon Features Famed Photographer Ray Atkeson's PNW Images
Friends of Timberline will celebrate famed photographer Ray Atkeson's Pacific Northwest images with a luncheon, lecture, and temporary exhibit opening at Timberline Lodge on August 25.
MOUNT HOOD, Ore., Aug. 2, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Friends of Timberline will celebrate famed photographer Ray Atkeson's Pacific Northwest images with a luncheon, lecture, and temporary exhibit opening at Timberline Lodge on August 25.
The event will feature the images of scenic photography pioneer Ray Atkeson, who amassed more than 250,000 images in his decades-long career as a commercial and freelance photographer.
"Ray was an icon at the mountain," Friends of Timberline Board President Lynda O'Neill says. "He is world-known for his images. Timberline is just one of the beautiful spots he would shoot, but being around the people, sports and the Lodge made it one of his favorites."
Guests will enjoy a catered lunch with wine and champagne, a lecture from Rick Schafer, Atkeson's stepson and protege, and the unveiling of the 22nd Mountain High exhibit, which will run until October 11 and features some of the famed photographer's most iconic PNW images.
The lecture will focus on Atkeson's photography and history, and will highlight a few of the stunning vistas he captured in the Pacific Northwest and beyond.
"Ray was very good friends with famous snowsports filmmaker Warren Miller, and they loved to shoot ski pictures and have fun together," O'Neill says. "Our lecturer, Rick Schafer is also an incredible photographer, and has some great stories to share about his stepfather's time on Mount Hood."
Optional free Lodge tours will be given by Forest Service volunteers at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., for those interested in learning more about the art, architecture, and history of Timberline.
Proceeds support volunteer-based, non-profit organization Friends of Timberline, established in 1975 with support from Dick Kohnstamm, who operated Timberline Lodge and ski area from 1955 until 1992.
