ASAP Appoints Michael Leonetti to CEO Position
Canton, MA (PRWEB) October 22, 2013 -- The Association of Strategic Alliance Professionals (ASAP), the world’s leading professional association dedicated to the practice of alliance management, today announced that it has hired Michael Leonetti, CSAP, as the association’s new CEO. Leonetti brings many years of senior alliance management experience and a track record of raising the profile of ASAP and the profession itself, a blend that made him uniquely qualified for the position.
Leonetti takes over an organization that has seen a sharp upward spike in its membership, increased diversification of its offerings and rapid growth in attendance of its events over the past few years. He will be charged with continuing the association’s momentum and expanding ASAP into new industries and geographies. Leonetti previously served as ASAP’s chairman of the board from 2006 to 2010. During that time, he drove ASAP to reach similar goals: he helped grow its member base, expand its services and build awareness of the profession. In that time, ASAP:
• Increased its revenues dramatically
• Grew its Individual, Corporate, and Global Member base significantly
• Expanded its community by globalizing its membership and founding five new chapters
• Developed groundbreaking offerings, the most notable of which was the founding of the world’s first alliance management certification program
• Inaugurated the ASAP BioPharma Conference, now a must-attend event for alliance management professionals in the biopharmaceutical industry
• Matured considerably as an organization by increasing its full-time staff count and securing new offices
“ASAP has been a pillar for me throughout my career and an invaluable contributor to my professional success,” said Leonetti. “Its resources, professional development capabilities and community of luminaries serve as the hub for anyone and everyone in the profession. I truly believe there is still tremendous untapped potential in terms of the impact alliance management practices and principles can make on what has become an increasingly collaborative business world, and ASAP is in perfect position to be the catalyst for that change.”
An Accomplished Alliance Management Veteran
Leonetti is a pioneer in the alliance management profession. He founded and built the $7 billion–plus pharmaceutical manufacturer Boehringer Ingelheim’s Alliance Management practice. One of the first pharma companies to apply an alliance-driven sales model, Boehringer Ingelheim’s alliances with Pfizer, Abbott, Eli Lilly and Company and Astellas helped the company achieve $3 billion–plus annually in sales of major drugs Flomax®, Mobic® and Spiriva®. Under Leonetti’s leadership, the Alliance Management group contributed substantially to Boehringer Ingelheim’s strategic vision, and Leonetti himself actively engaged in planning discussions with the company’s senior leaders to chart and execute broad organization goals.
“Mike has confronted—and conquered—the most pressing challenges the alliance management profession has faced this millennium,” said Russ Buchanan, CSAP, ASAP chairman of the board and vice president of worldwide alliances at Xerox. “As we move forward, ASAP’s executive committee felt Mike is the perfect person to build on the great progress the association has made since its inception. He already has a track record of broadening the ASAP community, creating new services that help our members develop professionally and raising the association’s, and the profession’s, growing profile in the business world.”
Leonetti officially starts his term as ASAP CEO Oct. 28.
