Drs. Alster, Fabi and Lin Accepted Their Awards at the 2019 ASDS Annual Meeting
ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill., Oct. 28, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) recently awarded Tina S. Alster, MD, Sabrina G. Fabi, MD, and Matthew Lin, MD, with the Society's prestigious annual awards at the ASDS Annual Meeting in Chicago, Illinois.
Samuel J. Stegman, MD, Award for Distinguished Service – Tina S. Alster, MD
Established in 1996, this award honors individuals who have made major contributions in furthering the goals of ASDS. These contributions may be identified through education in publications, lectures and courses; special accomplishments in a leadership role; and research in areas of interest to dermatologic surgeons. Dr. Alster accepted the 2019 Stegman Award at the 14th Annual Gala on Saturday at Chicago's iconic Field Museum.
"Dr. Alster embodies the excellence, professionalism and dedication to dermatologic surgery that this honor represents," said Joseph F. Sobanko, MD. "She is a true pioneer; after completing a fellowship in the nascent field of laser surgery, she opened up the first dermatologic laser surgery institute in Washington D.C. She has built a thriving practice in the past three decades while concomitantly developing novel, practice-changing treatments through independent research. Her dedication to patients and trainees, as well as the art and science of practicing dermatologic surgery, is remarkable."
"Dr. Alster is an extremely high profile dermatologist who has been published extensively with nearly 700 peer reviewed research articles, review articles, book chapters and books, as well as an active ASDS member since 1997, serving on its Board and numerous committees," said Roy G. Geronemus, MD. "She has become a role model for female dermatologic surgeons across the country and world, directing her own laser surgery fellowship program and mentoring many dermatologists in training."
Outstanding Service Award – Sabrina Fabi, MD
The Award for Outstanding Service recognizes young, emerging leaders who have demonstrated commitment to the Society's growth and success over a period of time. Dr. Fabi's contributions to the Society have been many. She is a sitting member of the Board and has served on nine work groups and as faculty for more than 38 sessions over the course of nine ASDS Annual Meetings. Dr. Fabi has been a Future Leaders Network (FLN) mentee and mentor and previously received a Young Investigators Writing Competition award.
"Sabrina is truly a champion of the Society, supporting and promoting its mission via media opportunities," said ASDS Immediate Past President Murad Alam, MD, MBA. "ASDS appreciates her dedication and looks forward to her continued success."
Drs. Alastair and Jean Carruthers Award (Top-rated Cosmetic Fellow Abstract) – Matthew J. Lin, MD
In honor of Drs. Alastair and Jean Carruthers, the Carruthers award was created in 2018 to stimulate interest and acknowledge cosmetic research contributions from Fellows of ASDS-accredited fellowship training programs. This annual award is presented to the highest scoring ASDS Annual Meeting abstract of which he/she is the first author, and Dr. Lin earned it for his abstract, "The Effect of Platelet Rich Plasma on Female Pattern Hair Loss."
