BURR RIDGE, Ill., July 13, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- With summer here, people think about doing home improvement projects such as installing a new roof or siding or even gutters. Thanks to inflation, the high costs of materials and labor have given consumers sticker shock which, in turn, brings thoughts of shelving plans.
Companies such as ASI Construction in Burr Ridge offer help in the form of financing to get the projects scheduled and done without breaking the bank or waiting as material costs to continue to rise. The company provides residential and multi-family exterior remodeling and restoration services, as well as general contracting in the Chicagoland area - servicing suburbs such as Oak Brook, Burr Ridge, and Hinsdale.
Financing has always been available, according to ASI CEO Jay Andreas, but with homeowners carefully deciding what projects to do, it can be the determining factor.
"Currently, we are doing many high-end projects," he explained. "Prices are still affordable, but they are definitely higher than they were before. Financing creates an opportunity for customers to consider having their projects done with a budgeting plan in mind. Even though they may not have, for example, $100,000 available, we can schedule and complete the project with low monthly payments. We have one plan where you have no interest and no payments for two years and another one up to 180 months. We advise our customers to consider having the work done now rather than later, because these material costs will continue to go up."
Andreas and other construction business owners are well aware of the
never-ending climbing prices for materials and labor. According to a recent article from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), building material prices jumped 8% since the beginning of 2022. Andreas has noticed the rising costs of roofing shingles, vinyl, cedar strand board, and fiber cement board siding, as well as aluminum starting last year.
"Over the last year, I've seen certain material prices rise about 42.7% since May of 2021," he said. "I'm getting that figure from analyzing material invoices from May 2021 to May 2022. With material and labor costs going up, this could potentially affect the profit margins of any business. We're charging more, but still keeping our customers extremely happy. Our customers don't care if we are the highest bid because ASI's installers are incredible and definitely justify our pricing. You rather pay for something to get done right, rather than have to pay for it twice."
Added to the painful mix are the long wait periods for materials because of the persistent and intractable supply chain issues.
"If I need a certain product and if it's stock, I can get it within 24 hours," Andreas said. "Depending on the item, the wait gap can be between 24 hours to about 16 weeks. This can include ordering a product in different colors or styles. The turnaround times can be quick, due to our unique connections with our distributors, but if the item is a special order the wait time could be up to 16 weeks."
Despite the economic concerns, companies will work with customers to attain a win/win situation. Andreas is glad to offer a solution for customers who can plan ahead for their projects.
"They love this plan when they realize that they don't have to dip into their savings accounts," he said. "Financing gives them time to budget their money and not have to worry about paying it off for two years or up to 15 years. You can even sell your home and use the proceeds to pay off your financing early, with no prepayment penalty."
