There is an incredible demand for advanced healthcare solutions that impact patient care and operational efficiency. ASME is fueling collaborations that will unlock future growth opportunities and improvements for patient care.
NEW YORK (PRWEB) June 13, 2019
Medical applications of 3D printing—including medical and dental implants, additive manufacturing (AM)-enabled tissue fabrication, patient-matched models and surgical guides, and prosthetics and assistive devices—are expanding rapidly. Every day, physicians are using AM medical technologies to improve patient care. Children with birth defects, soldiers with cranial injuries, conjoined twins, cancer patients and many others have been helped by 3D innovations. The value to individual patients is immeasurable.
The total value of AM machines, materials, software and services for medical applications is projected to reach $2.2 billion by 2024, according to a recent report from Global Market Insights. However, achieving this growth potential requires collaboration between the manufacturing and medical communities to enable technology application.
The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is leading the charge to move this technology collaboration forward and will host AM Medical: Additive Manufacturing & 3D Innovations on May 27-28, 2020, at the Minneapolis Convention Center. The new event focuses exclusively on 3D innovations in an interactive, collaborative environment for learning and sharing. Participants will see and hear more about the latest advancements in 3D printing, materials, quality processes, scanning and visualization; new software solutions for post-processing, modeling and simulation; and more—all in one place. Professionals and organizations with shared interest in growing applications in medical devices, point-of-care, dental and bioprinting will collaborate to advance human health.
“There is an incredible demand for advanced healthcare solutions that impact patient care and operational efficiency,” says ASME President Richard Laudenat. “We are fueling collaborations that will unlock future growth opportunities and improvements for patient care.”
For AM Medical, this collaboration is strengthened by strategic alliances with leading organizations including America Makes and Additive Manufacturing Media. America Makes is a public-private partnership with member organizations from industry, academia, government, non-government agencies, and workforce and economic development resources, working together to innovate and accelerate AM to increase our nation’s global manufacturing competitiveness. Additive Manufacturing Media, a multi-channel media outlet and property of Gardner Business Media, is devoted to industrial applications of 3D printing technology, reporting on the promise of additive, its current applications, advances in technology, the challenges of employing AM effectively, and the relationship of additive manufacturing to other manufacturing operations.
“NCDMM / America Makes is pleased to collaborate with ASME in this important event in the healthcare application space,” says John Wilczynski, executive director of America Makes. “We are excited by this opportunity to engage with the additive manufacturing medical community — leveraging our collaborative innovation model and our broad membership community with the needs of the medical solution providers.”
In addition, the AM Medical advisory panel includes representatives from the leading medical and dental device manufacturers (Johnson & Johnson, Medtronic, Avalign Technologies), regulatory agencies, medical centers (Mayo Clinic, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Veterans Health Administration), universities (University of Michigan, Penn State University), software and hardware companies (3D Systems, EnvisionTEC, Stratasys, EOS, Formlabs, Materialise) and more.
“New technologies deserve new approaches,” says Debbie Holton, ASME’s managing director of industry events. “We’re excited to offer attendees a comprehensive look at new 3D technologies and an engaging environment with experts sharing experience and discussing practical solutions. This conversation will continue beyond the AM Medical event as ASME will offer ongoing resources including online learning, webinars, certifications and more.”
