According to Portfolio Aspen Properties, in 2013 to date, there have been 19 land sales in Aspen including the 5 auctioned. In 2012, there were 26 land sales in Aspen, compared to only 13 sales in 2011 and 14 in 2010.
“The purchasers did not get screaming deals on the lots, but they did get a nice discount because if the lots were purchased on the open market they would have gone for more,” said Erik Berg of Portfolio Aspen Properties.
This week’s US Forest Service auction, which lasted over two hours, ended with three separate buyers for the five lots. The total sale for the five Aspen properties was $7.01million. The sale will allow the White River National Forest to begin the process of remodeling its Aspen headquarters.
