Atlanta's Traditional Title Services Launches OFAC Sanctions Certificate with Each Title Search

ATLANTA, May 31, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Traditional Title Services, Georgia's largest and most experienced title abstractors known for raising the standards and quality of title searches in Georgia, have started including an OFAC Sanctions Certificate with each and every search.

The requirement for the OFAC Sanctions search is not new. It was originally part of an Executive Order 13224, effective September 24, 2001, and was later included as part of the USA PATRIOT Act of 2001. However, this requirement has been neglected in many of the real estate transactions over the past 18 years.

"The requirement to search and make sure that all parties to a transaction are not restricted by the federal government from engaging is something that we have complied with from day one," said President, Mike Watkins of Traditional Title Services. "We were shocked recently when looking for title vendors to discover none of them were checking the OFAC Sanctions list. In fact most of them had never even heard of it. We thought this was particularly troublesome, spurring us to create a separate certificate and include it with each search."

Traditional Title Services has long had technology that searches the OFAC Sanctions list at the time a title request is placed. If a match is found, their system automatically rejects the request and notifies the users. Following the update, the company now creates a certificate complete with the names checked, as well as an effective date.

Traditional Title Services does not charge an additional fee for this search, even though it is offered by some as a paid product. They also do not charge to search again and issue a certificate of the parties to the transaction change.
