Cumberland Academy of Georgia hosted an alumni and parent panel on Jan. 4, 2019 at 1 p.m. The school invited several former students and their parents to speak to grades 9-12 about their time at Cumberland and their individual transitions to college or careers. The goal of the panel was to give students a picture of life after high school and a connection to the result of hard work. Students had a deeper understanding of the college process and college life through the eyes of their former classmates.
“This alumni panel served as a tool for our current students to see the different paths they can take after graduation,” said Debbi Scarborough, headmaster and founding director of the school. “Each of the alumni had a different perspective on their adult journey, and we hope the high school students were encouraged by the success stories.” Parents also presented to offer the family perspective of college choices and career development.
The alumni panel took place the first week in 2019 and helped kick start the second semester. This event was hosted by Creating Futures, a new program at Cumberland designed to create opportunities for students by assisting with college applications and career development.
