In such scenarios a police officer posing as a worker for an escort service extends sexual services to a text responder. After an agreement is reached, the officer claims to be a minor. Text responders who still agree to meet for the purpose of sexual services are arrested. Such an arrest brings felony charges that carry serious state prison sentences as well as lifetime sex offender registration.

Sawyer said the victory came as a great relief for his client. "It went from a state prison case with lifetime registration to a misdemeanor with suspended fine and no additional jail time," he said. "We are very pleased with the outcome."
