LOS ANGELES, Jan. 25, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Through the tumultuous times of 2020 and today, race in America is at the forefront of minds across the nation. Communities across geographic boundaries and backgrounds are contemplating how the country moves forward to improve the lives and futures of all Americans. Film and video content curator AudPop believes that stories can change the world and announces its newest short film challenge, RACE TO JUSTICE 2021.
Filmmakers are invited to submit a short film (no longer than 20 minutes) addressing racial justice topics through compelling storytelling — from the history of policing and lynching and their lasting impacts to white privilege and rape as a weapon of intersectional oppression. Winning films will receive distribution across various platforms. Submissions will be accepted online at AudPop.com through Tuesday, Feb. 2.
"We are thrilled to launch our RACE TO JUSTICE 2021 Film Challenge with our amazing jury of expert film and entertainment executives," said Nichelle S. Carr, Chief Content Officer at AudPop. "Issues of race and justice are central to the American dilemma. And as ever, we look to artists — today, working through the infinitely innovative medium of short film — to help us to see ourselves better, so we can do better."
The top 10 films in the challenge, determined by a global audience and AudPop senior staff, will be judged by an industry jury panel with representatives from Lionsgate, Oxford Film Festival, Level Forward and ColorCreative. Amy Hobby, producer of What Happened, Miss Simone? nominated for Best Documentary Feature at the 88th Academy Awards, will also serve on the jury panel. The top films will screen across multiple networks including Firework TV, XUMO and FlipBoard TV, and the winning film will receive a year of Adobe Premiere Pro!
"AudPop does an incredible job providing additional opportunities for content creators," said Deniese Davis, COO of ColorCreative. "They support their voices in a real way when it comes to creating and curating their stories, which is a real need in our industry right now as storytelling becomes more niche."
Davis was recently awarded AudPop's 2020 Impact Award at the company's annual film and innovation festival, AudFest, for her work advancing the careers of screenwriters and directors, particularly women and people of color.
