OMAHA, Neb., Oct. 7, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Author J. Michael Moriarty has published his debut fictional book that shares an imaginative exploration of Ernest Hemingway's second chance of life after faking his own death on July 2, 1961. In "Hemingway's Retreat," Moriarty illustrates the transformation of Hemingway into Irishman Matt Fitzgerald.
Throughout his new journey, Fitzgerald learns more about his roots while meeting important people and exploring historical landmarks. Not only does he get to see and learn more about his new homeland, he also realizes he can never give up his passion of being a reporter and telling basic stories as he reflects on his past as Hemingway. Moriarty expresses the importance of Hemingway moving to Ireland as his new persona Matt Fitzgerald and learning more about the history, landmarks, and people of his new home.
The book shares exciting explorations such as horse racing, fox hunting and Fitzgerald's encounters with Ireland's historical greats like the Knight of Glin, playwright John B. Keane who Fitzgerald meets in Listowel where they dedicate their day at the races, and Vincent O'Brien, one of the greatest trainers in horse racing history. Fitzgerald hears stories from his new friends and he tells his new friends stories of his past as he looks back at Hemingway's time in the Spanish Civil War, Normandy Landings and his time in Cuba.
"I wrote this book because of my long-term admiration for Ernest Hemingway. I felt a personal connection with Hemingway. I was a reporter like him and admired his style of writing. My admiration for him turned into a passionate study. I felt the need to write this book along with my second book which will be another adventure that Hemingway (Fitzgerald) takes to England," said Moriarty. Moriarty continued, "my main purpose in writing this book was to bring the great Ernest Hemingway back into the world."
"Hemingway's Retreat" is an inventive and original account of what would happen if Ernest Hemingway staged his own death to start a new life in Ireland. Even though Hemingway is appreciative of his new life, he still questions if this life is worth living. Readers will go on a literary and sporting tour of Ireland through this imaginative account of what would have happened if Ernest Hemingway faked his own death.
