Author Kristine Leahy's new book "The Happily Ever After" Reimagines the Fairy Tale Structure
Recent release "The Happily Ever After" from Page Publishing author Kristine Leahy follows a rescued princess, the heroic knight who saved her, and their atypical journey to 'The End'.
LAKEWOOD, Colo., Dec. 18, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Kristine Leahy, a longtime bookseller and avid reader of fantasy, has added her name to the list of authors in her favorite genre by completing her new book "The Happily Ever After": a book filled with adventures following Princess Butterfly who is rescued from a dragon by Prince Valiant. But from the very beginning, her experience with her savior is different from what she has heard from other princesses.
"I've been an avid reader and writer since I was six years old," Leahy said of the route that brought her to writing. "I spent most of my growing up days in the fantasy section of the library, devouring ancient folklore and legend. After receiving my bachelor's degree in English from Colorado Christian University, I worked in the children's books section of Barnes and Noble Booksellers for eight years, where I loved chatting with fellow fantasy lovers of all ages.
Published by Page Publishing, Kristine Leahy's story differs from the normal trajectory of a fairy tale in that things are not happily ever after immediately after Prince Valiant slays the dragon who kept Princess Butterfly prisoner. Although Butterfly thought her suffering would be over when she was set free, and that her rescuer, the charming and handsome Prince Valiant, would be honorable and wouldn't have kept any secrets from her, Butterfly discovers he did keep one secret from her—along with a seething indifference and a loathsome pride.
Whereas most stories end with the implication of a new story beginning after the slaying of the dragon, Valiant and Butterfly encounter not the one dragon, but countless. Like some kind of hydra along their route homeward, with each step they take closer to their destination, another dragon appears—until Valiant and Butterfly are unsure they can live to fight another day.
Readers who wish to experience this adventurous take on the fairy tale form can purchase "The Happily Ever After" at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iTunes Store, Amazon, Google Play, or Barnes and Noble.
