Author Linda R. Martin's new book "Parallel Worlds" compares the analogous lives of Cristian and Linda, who grew up in the 1970s living half a world apart
Recent release "Parallel Worlds" from Page Publishing author Linda R. Martin describes the lives of Cristian and Linda, who remember the same types of childhoods with innocence, joy, laughter, routines, family, friends, holidays, favorite teachers, and the smell of favorite foods. All of this not only meant a lot to them growing up but also shaped who they became as adults.
PALM COAST, Fla., Jan. 12, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Linda R. Martin, who grew up in the northeast, has completed her new book "Parallel Worlds": a gripping and potent memoir that highlights the similarities between Linda and Cristian's lives, even though they grew up half a world apart—Cristian in Eastern Europe and Linda in the United States.
As Cristian told the story of his life growing up in Eastern Europe from the time that he was a very small child, Linda realized it wasn't very different from her childhood—until it was very different. Cristian somehow understood the unbearable impacts of socialism on humanity at a very young age and idolized the freedoms of democracy. His story to escape the country where he was born and his determination to live in the country that he talks about with such admiration made Linda feel privileged to grow up in the United States of America.
Author Linda R. Martin writes, "Traveling to West Virginia in the summer of 2020 to visit a family of close friends, I expected to be surrounded by a group of sweet, southern voices and incredible hospitality. I went to visit a family I had known for thirty-five years that lived in a small town in very close proximity to one another. They loved children and gatherings. They loved company and sharing their home. Like all good southern folks, they were food pushers, huggers, and storytellers, and I needed to be with good people at this time in my life. I had just ended a thirty-five-year marriage and lived alone for the very first time in my entire life. There were times when friends feel and behave more like family than those whose blood runs through your veins. This is the reason I went to visit. What I didn't expect was Cristian. He was part of the family by marriage and divorce that I had never met before. He was certainly the anomaly in the small town of Elkins. Cristian had a strong European accent that could melt through cold butter and all the swagger of a man confident with his presence—sexy, charming, strong, and handsome. He also cursed like a sailor and smoked like a chimney, much like me when I'm not around my white-collar colleagues."
