Stan Cosby's new novel is based on stories heard as a child
HEDLEY, Tex., June 26, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Author Stan Cosby based his tragic tale of feuding cowboys in the Old West on his own ancestry.
In "High Lonesome," Cosby presents a fictional account of the true familial lore he was told as he grew up in the High Plains of Texas. After researching the events for several years, Cosby sat down to recreate the narrative of tragedy, murder and love that took place over a 40-year period, between 1870 and 1910.
"Because these events were tragic and troublesome and involve the feuding of families whose descendants still live today," said Cosby, "I have chosen to change the names of main characters, while leaving the names of minor characters alone."
The coming-of-age story centers around Crawford Cashion and his family as they try to establish a ranch in southwest Texas. This results in some deadly measures employed by a local cattle baron. "High Lonesome" also includes a timeline of major events in the story, as well as a glossary of "cowboy slang and turn-of-the-century words and phrases" used in the book for readers that may not be familiar with them.
Cosby has released three other books, previously: "The Intruders," a beautifully-illustrated family Christmas coffee-table book; "Juliana," a historical novel about a 13th century holy woman, Julian of Norwich; and "A Life's Worth," a collection of poems.
