“The Legend of the Christmas Spider”: a charming children’s book that shares the story of a friendly spider who brings luck. “The Legend of the Christmas Spider” is the creation of published author, Andrew Gorman.

Author Andrew Gorman has had a passion for being creative since he was a toddler playing soldier with his army men in the sandbox. He realized he had a way with words while getting his BA in history at Colorado State University. He continued to refine his creativity by serving as an armor officer in the U.S. Army and then writing papers to get his MA in history at Fort Hays State University. Andrew currently resides in Dallas, where he spends his time growing in the Word of God, dancing with his girlfriend, and crafting Christmas spider ornaments.

Andrew writes, “The friendly spiders had been watching all the hustle and bustle from their cozy corner in the ceiling, but soon the mother took her broom and chased them off to the attic, exclaiming that everything had to be cleaned!”

Though the origin of this folktale has been lost in time, it is very well known in Eastern Europe, especially Western Ukraine. In that part of the world, it is widely held as good luck to find a spider or a spiderweb on the Christmas tree, so it comes as no surprise to find spider-shaped ornaments during the holiday season. Some homes still use artificial spider webs and apply them to their Christmas tree as a tradition.

Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Andrew Gorman’s new book features stunning illustrations by Sophia and Annie Borjorquez.
