Carmen Oliva, a native New Yorker and mother of college-age and grown children now living in Georgia, where she and her husband, Joe, open their home to host foreign exchange students, has completed her new book “The Adventures of Pugsley the Pug and Trucker Joe: The Christmas Miracle”: an uplifting holiday story for young readers.
After enjoying a wonderful Thanksgiving meal at Big Tim’s Diner, Trucker Joe and Pugsley are chosen for the haul of a lifetime. They will both embark on a long treacherous journey to Nome, Alaska, on a special assignment that only Trucker Joe and little Pugsley can accomplish. Due to severe weather, a generator at a children’s center is out of order, and it’s up to Trucker Joe and Pugsley to deliver a new one in time for a huge Christmas party. Little do they know that they will be driving through a dangerous storm and come across a mysterious and jolly old man on the side of the road, whom Pugsley takes an instant liking to.
Who is this jolly old man stranded on the side of the road in a snowstorm with the strange laugh and a beard whiter than snow? And why does he smell as sweet as a familiar scent Trucker Joe remembers from his childhood? Only after Trucker Joe and Pugsley complete their mission and enjoy the Christmas party do they find out who this special person really is.
Published by Page Publishing, Carmen Oliva’s engrossing tale is a delightful addition to any children’s library.
