Clyde Washington, an artist and US Navy veteran who was born in Charleston, South Carolina and raised by his devout Christian grandmother until the age of ten, when a move to live with his mother in upstate New York prompted a radical change in his life, has completed his new book “Forever Righteous on God”: a thought-provoking poetic commentary on the role of faith in myriad social, cultural, and racial issues.
“And to live by faith was all he had. He had no choice but to go to God. All the doors of justice were closed to him. And in going to God, he was told to paint and write. This was a world he would find peace, away from all the lies and liars. He found a world of his own that hides a lot of the pain. The more pain the people gave him, the more he would paint that pain. Then in his spirit world, he wrote the poems that went with these paintings. He must not sell them, for all were a part of him. The more he listened to his calling, the more paintings he received, the more writing that came with them. It was controlling him. He wanted to think and feel like everyone else. He was driven by the force of God.”
