Faramarz Franco Davati, a student of theology as well as history, has completed the new book “Alchemy of the Quran”: a mixture of prophetic texts, poetry, and postulations for a new generation of readers of the Quran.

“Today, wherever Muslims are allowed to freely practice their religion, moderate Muslims around the world pick and choose the parts of the Quran they will follow, using the verses that are agreeable to their culture and within the rules and laws of their societies,” Faramarz Franco Davati explained of Islam today. “If someone wanted to practice the whole book of the Quran word for word, he or she would have to regress, scale down, and go backward to 1400 years ago to the Bedouin culture, to match the lifestyle of that time.”

Published by New York City-based Page Publishing, Faramarz Franco Davati’s collection of essays separates what advice the Arab people of 1400 years ago needed to follow, from what still applies today. Through excerpts of the poetry of the historical Persian poet, Rumi, as well as quotes from the Quran, this book presents facts and dispels fictions surrounding this Abrahamic religion.

Faramarz Franco Davati tries to encourage Muslims in this book into thinking and reasoning when reading the Quran, instead of following it blindly. According to Davati, God dislikes people who do not think and reason (Quran 8:22), Davati believes Muslims should try to separate the main teachings of Islam from the Bedouin culture of 1400 years ago in Arabia that Islam was born into. According to Davati, “We Muslims should pick and choose verses that can help us in this life and move forward that do not impose a burden on people around us by practicing our Islam, regardless if we live in a Muslim or a non-Muslim country.

Readers who wish to learn more about the magic of the Quran can purchase “Alchemy of the Quran” at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iTunes store, Amazon, Google Play or Barnes and Noble.
