Sharon Belcher, a lifelong music and teaching enthusiast, has completed her new book “A Musical Adventure”: a blend of whimsical adventures for imaginary characters, and an educational tool meant to bring a thorough understanding of orchestral vernacular to even the youngest of students.

“Through my elementary to graduate education, and my career of over forty years of teaching, music and writing have been woven through the tapestry of my life both in our country and abroad,” Sharon Belcher explained of the path that brought her to this project. “Discovery is so much fun, especially with puppets. It almost feels like a small miracle when it occurs. That is how I felt when music students began to learn and remember music vocabulary, concepts, and notation as I used puppets.”

Published by Page Publishing, Sharon Belcher’s innovative means of teaching children all about music began in her classroom. She had the idea to incorporate puppets, each with distinct traits that corresponded to various musical terminology, so as to acquaint children with personalities rather than vocabulary. Including “Largo Turtle” (‘largo’ meaning slow), and “Presto Bee” (‘presto’ meaning fast), and corresponding games that the characters play with one another, the students learn complex ideas through play.

Readers who wish to bring this exciting and provable method of teaching children musical vocabulary work can purchase “A Musical Adventure” at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iTunes Store, Amazon, Google Play, or Barnes and Noble.
