Recent release "Raising Jess: A Story of Hope" from Page Publishing author Vickie Rubin tells of a family changed forever by the birth of a child with special needs and their courageous decision to choose hope.
EAST AMHERST, N.Y., Oct. 11, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Vickie Rubin, who received her bachelor's degree with honors in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education from the University of Miami in 1979, has completed her new book "Raising Jess: A Story of Hope": a gripping and potent work that follows the journey of a family that chooses to put love above all else, even when dealing with extraordinarily difficult circumstances.
Author Vickie Rubin discusses the long and difficult journey of learning Jess's diagnosis, writing, "The developmental pediatrician in Buffalo thought that Jessica resembled two of his children who had a genetic abnormality called cri du chat stemming from the fifth chromosome. With Jessica's genetic testing and the doctor's insistence, the lab found that Jess had an interstitial deletion or gap (the missing genetic material was in the middle of the short arm) of her fifth chromosome. So, we had what we thought was finally a diagnosis for Jessica. It was an awful diagnosis that we discovered after reading (remember, no Google) reports of the potentially devastating outcomes for some children with cri du chat, and we realized how awful the diagnosis really was. Many do well, but the medical journals featured photos and outcomes that were alarming and depressing. Ultimately it was found that cri du chat was not a correct diagnosis, but we didn't find that out for another ten years."
Published by Page Publishing, Vickie Rubin's compelling tale is written with compassion, honesty, and humor, and it truly captures the humanity of overcoming unimaginable obstacles.
