Authors Celebrate One Hundred Years of Sisterhood
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) July 22, 2013 -- Angela Ray of Angela Ray International participated in a book signing along with two other authors at Howard University Bookstore on Wednesday, July 17, 2013. The book signing was presented while all three authors were in Washington, D.C. for the Centennial Convention of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Ray is the author of the books, Rays of Motivation: 99 Tips for Staying Energized, Empowered and Encouraged to Create Megastar Success in Your Business and Life, Rehearsing for the Leading Role: Lessons I Learned as an Actress That Can Help You Become a Megastar Student Leader, and Blackberry Whispers.
Ray, along with Linda Everett Moye and Shahari Moore, the other authors, are all members of the sorority. The trio has collaborated in the past. Moye has published of six books, including the anthology, Delta Girls: Stories of Sisterhood. Both Ray and Moore have stories in that anthology.
Moore on the other hand is the author of four books, including the Essence Bestseller, Violets: A Collection on Inspirational Poems by the Women of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Moye is one of the twenty-two contributors to that collection. The three first participated in a book signing together in 2005 in a program called Delta Authors on Tour in Durham, North Carolina which Ray helped coordinate.
"I was honored to share my work and the work of soror poets who contributed to Violets at the Howard University Bookstore,” Moore said. “Howard is the birthplace of my sorority and to have a book signing with two of my sorors during our Centennial Convention made it a memorable experience."
The book signing was held on the last official day of the sorority’s convention which began on Friday, July 12, 2013 with a public meeting on the National Mall. Throughout the convention, nearly 40,000 members of the sorority attended various programs and activities throughout the greater Washington, D.C. area. Highlights of the event included a special address from Secretary of State Hillary Clinton who told members who packed the halls of the Washington Convention Center, “Wherever you see women advancing, you see Deltas.” The sorority was also honored with the renaming of a portion of New Hampshire Avenue, home to its National Headquarters, to Delta Sigma Theta Way.
With all of the business and official activities, many members like Ray, Moye and Moore saw the event as an opportunity to connect. “It was an awesome experience for me to be able to meet and greet so many sorors from all over the country and even as far away as Korea,” Moye stated. “It was cool that the three of us were able to work together. We all had worked together in the past and collaborated on each other’s projects.”
Ray echoed that sentiment. “I have been privileged to have great book signings in a variety of venues. Yet, signing books during the Centennial Convention of my sorority with two of my sorority sisters was priceless” Ray said. “To share that historic moment together on the campus of Howard University where our founders gave birth to the sorority is a memory I will cherish for many years to come,” she added.
