Bank Impressed with Customer-Focused Functionality of CourtesyConnect®/CourtesyLimit™ Program, Including Dynamic Overdraft Limits and Management of Reg E Decisions

BSG Financial Group’s service helps us actively monitor a customer’s financial position and tailor overdraft limits to mitigate risks for both the customer and the bank.

BSG Financial Group, a provider of revenue-enhancement programs and compliance solutions for financial institutions nationwide, announced today its continued expansion into the Midwest U.S. by adding Carroll, IA-based Availa Bank ($666 million in assets) to the list of clients that utilize its CourtesyConnect®/CourtesyLimit™ technology to manage discretionary overdraft services.

According to Jeff G. Scharfenkamp, President and CEO of Availa Bank, the bank selected BSG Financial Group as its partner first and foremost to help the institution provide improved service to its customers. Scharfenkamp said a major factor in the bank selecting CourtesyConnect/CourtesyLimit is its ability to calculate overdraft limits that may change daily based on a customer’s ability to repay an overdraft and the corresponding fees. “Availa Bank wants to provide an overdraft service that is readily available for our customers who are in a financial position to use it for emergencies or funding shortfalls,” he said. “BSG Financial Group’s service helps us actively monitor a customer’s financial position and tailor overdraft limits to mitigate risks for both the customer and the bank.”

Additionally, Scharfenkamp said that the program’s process and procedures regarding Reg E opt-ins was a prominent element in the bank’s decision to select BSG Financial Group. “Now, our customers can take advantage of the overdraft service at the ATM and at point-of-sale, if they wish to do so. With CourtesyConnect/CourtesyLimit, we are better equipped to facilitate Reg E decisions through automation and a customized communications process,” he said.

BSG Financial Group provides each CourtesyConnect/CourtesyLimit client with comprehensive program training for bank personnel, as well as a detailed set of best practices to ensure compliance with all federal guidelines regarding overdraft management. In addition, the company conducts annual program performance reviews; hosts ongoing educational webinars; produces training videos; and distributes periodic compliance updates.

“A few years ago we searched for an overdraft provider that could meet our customer service needs, but came up short,” said Scharfenkamp. “This time, we were referred to BSG Financial Group by one of its existing clients and we immediately liked what we saw. Every reference we contacted spoke very highly of BSG Financial Group and its way of doing business. We are confident we have made the right decision.”

About Availa Bank
The roots of Availa Bank run deep in the Iowa soil. In 1870, German Bank of Carroll County began operations to serve its local community in western Iowa. Although the name of bank changed to Carroll County State Bank during World War I, the commitment to local businesses, farmers and individuals remained the cornerstone for continue growth in the area.

Over the years, the bank has partnered with other banks in the region who shared its commitment of local people serving local needs. These banks included Council Bluffs Savings Bank in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and CSBank with offices in Pocahontas and Fort Dodge, Iowa. In 2017, Carroll County State Bank and its affiliates made the decision to adopt a single name for all institutions. That name was Availa Bank.

Today, Availa Bank celebrates a close to 150-year tradition in each and every location — providing local service to the local communities.
