Enhancing Squish's already powerful property-based and image-based recognition capabilities, Squish 6.5 now includes AI-powered Optical Character Recognition support for locating and verifying onscreen text.

froglogic is happy to announce a major release of its flagship product, the Squish GUI Tester, a market leading cross-platform GUI test automation tool, with support for all major GUI technologies operating on all desktop, mobile, embedded and cross-browser web platforms.

New to Squish 6.5 is AI-driven OCR (Optical Character Recognition) Support, a method of text recognition and verification that compliments Squish’s already powerful Object-based and Image-based recognition capabilities. OCR is a technology that enables the digitization of scanned images with printed text into machine-readable data that can later be used for electronic editing. Implemented into Squish, OCR allows for efficient text handling in those scenarios where Image-based recognition methods, including Fuzzy Image Search, are generally unsuitable for locating and verifying text onscreen due to a wide assortment of fonts, font sizes, decorations and rendering modes in cross-platform GUI tests. Locating and verifying onscreen text is now easier than ever thanks to added OCR support, even in cases where the same text is rendered with different parameters, making it look largely dissimilar in pixel-to-pixel comparisons.

Squish uses a built-in AI-powered OCR engine to facilitate text recognition. OCR support in Squish was developed from the beginning to be fully flexible. If you're looking to use a specific OCR engine, it's no problem: Squish has the ability to support alternative OCR engines for substitution.

Squish 6.5 offers unparalleled versatility for object-, image- and text-based control recognition, allowing users to test a diverse application landscape with thoroughness and ease. This release transforms users' products into high-quality, well-tested and user experience-focused solutions built for the modern world.
