AVC's Totally Sustainable Packaging System (TSP) Removes All Plastic and is Frustration Free for E-commerce Shipping
AVC Corporation has developed "Totally Sustainable Packaging, TSP," a packaging system which eliminates the use of any plastic in the shipping package by leaving only a piece of cardboard to recycle. The first of AVC's TSP packaging systems used for e-commerce was approved and used for both Amazon FFP (Frustration Free Package) SIOC (Ships in Own Container) tiers and can be opened in under 15 seconds.
RANCHO DOMINGUEZ, Calif., Sept. 5, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- AVC Corporation, the veteran designer of sustainable packaging, announced its new 'TSP Packaging Concept.' TSP stands for Totally Sustainable Packaging, a packaging system which eliminates the use of any plastic in the shipping package. With e-commerce dominating the retail package shipping business, and buyers indiscriminately tossing the packaging into the trash, a new concept was needed for a package that can be quickly opened, recycled, and that is truly sustainable.
The first of AVC's TSP packaging systems used for e-commerce was approved and used for both Amazon FFP (Frustration Free Package) SIOC (Ships in Own Container) tiers. The one-piece cardboard box can be opened and disposed of (in a recycling bin) in under 20 seconds.
While plastic recycling is the aim of most packaging, the fact of the matter is that most retail plastic is not able to be recycled. The reason for that is that a single clamshell, weighing only an ounce, is disposed of in a plastic recycling bin along with other plastic items. The problem is that mixed plastics are destined for landfills because they cannot be economically separated, and if mixed, are generally not suitable for recycling.
True sustainability requires a single source packaging product. AVC's TSP packages consists of a one or two-piece cardboard package that is easily opened and disposed of. With no plastic to recycle or contaminate, we have a truly sustainable product.
Amazon requires a frustration free package (FFP) to be opened within 120 seconds. The TSP package can be opened in only 15 seconds using nothing more than a butter knife. Amazon also has a higher tier of packaging classified as, Ships In Own Container (SIOC), and of course the TSP package fulfills both those requirements. Drop testing is of course performed for every TSP package that is custom designed for our client's products.
The $11 billion packaging industry is coming to grips with the demands of the public and the environment. Twenty years ago, most packaging contained PVC. PET eventually replaced PVC almost entirely in packaging, but even PET has a decomposition time of hundreds of years. Recently we have seen the plastic straw outlawed and the old reliable paper straw has come back. This seems to be the destiny of packaging concepts—back to the beginning—before plastics were around.
E-commerce, the new elephant in the room, does not require fancy packaging. It does not require a clear opening for the product to be seen, nor does it care about any messaging on the outside of the package. E-commerce purchasers want to see their package arrive quickly, be easily opened, and be disposed of quickly so it can be recycled. The TSP system is the answer to all the above.
