Axela Construction is a Connecticut-based full-service construction firm helping real estate owners and developers grow their portfolio value — or convert their assets. Led by owners & developers who have been there — and deeply understand your needs we have one goal give clients the integrity and expertise we'd want for ourselves.
WATERBURY, Conn., March 3, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Inc. magazine today revealed that out of 1125 companies, Axela Construction ranks No. 82 on its third annual Inc. Regionals Northeast list, the most prestigious list of the fastest-growing private companies in the Northeast. Born of the annual Inc. 5000 franchise, this list represents an eye-opening look at the most successful companies within the Northeast economy's most dynamic segment — its independent small businesses.
"We are excited and honored," said Mark Shteierman, President. "Axela has generated millions of dollars each year since its founding in 2002. Yet in the past two years, we've grown our revenue by 212% — a rate that's rare even for young companies starting from zero."
Shteierman, an industry veteran and father of one who calls Waterbury, Connecticut home, explains that this massive growth — $19 million of revenue in 2022 alone — resulted from an unconventional company journey.
Unlike most general contracting firms, Axela was founded by investors: real estate owners who needed more than a GC. As their construction needs grew, they wanted a GC who would serve as their strategic advisor and long-term collaborator, with an owner-focused perspective — so they built their own GC firm to do exactly that.
For years, Axela operated in a limited fashion, building only the projects of its founders. And over time, the company built a powerful foundation: a unique, owner-centric process that prioritized strict adherence to timetables, careful strategic spending, and an eye on long-term maintenance and management.
"It was designed by owners, for owners," explained CEO Yitz Rabinowitz, one of Axela's founders. Rabinowitz, a busy property owner in the tristate area continues "Most GCs are just not involved in end user maintenance, so they don't know the long-term effects of a given system or material. At Axela, every decision was made from an owner mindset: how will this affect tenants, management, and our investment?"
In 2021, after nearly two decades of honing their process to perfection, Axela opened its services to the broader market — and the company exploded.
"In a matter of months, we went from 3 employees to 20," reported President Shteierman. "The demand was real. Owners want to work with other owners — people who deeply understand their unique needs, priorities, and goals."
Since the start of 2023, Axela has already accepted 12 new projects in cities like Hartford, Bridgeport & Waterbury in CT and other states including one in Burton, Michigan. The group has expanded its reach throughout Connecticut, moving into Darien and Fairfield with multiple high-profile projects — including phase 1 of The Crossings At Fairfield Metro two multifamily builds worth $26M and $14M, respectively. Over the past two years alone, Axela has completed upwards of 25 projects.
Scott Omelianuk, editor-in-chief of Inc. magazine, says the companies on this Regionals Northeast list are companies to be watched.
"This year's Inc. winners represent one of the most exceptional and exciting lists of America's off-the-charts growth companies. They're disruptors and job creators, and all delivered an outsize impact on the economy. Remember their names and follow their lead. These are the companies you'll be hearing about over the next decade — and beyond."
Shteierman, for one, is grateful for the honor — and even more grateful to the team that made it happen.
"We have an exceptional team of A-players who work hard, play hard, and have a lot of fun. Our process is owner-built and proven — and we look forward to using it to help many more owners, for years to come."
