RENO, Nev., Feb. 25, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- At the start of 2020, Unitek College added an eighth campus to their roster in Reno, Nevada. In late February, Unitek received nursing-board approval to offer the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and Practical Nursing (PN) programs to the Reno community.
Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) can enroll in the PN to RN pathway at Unitek. This would allow LPNs who have completed certain General Education courses to apply for Advanced Placement status and potentially skip the first three semesters.
"Our simulation center contains high-fidelity simulators and sim-view technology, including a Medical Surgical Nursing Intensive Care Unit (ICU)," said Marilyn Lim-Carreon, the Reno Campus Director. "It provides nursing students with two furnished patient rooms: one for Pediatrics with infant and child simulators, and another that includes a birthing simulator, a bassinet for newborns, and a delivery bed. Our goal is to emulate actual hospital rooms in a protected environment."
Aspiring nurses in Reno will have the opportunity to earn their BSN degree or PN diploma at Unitek. They can benefit from the use of various skills labs and collaboration rooms. Other benefits include a dedicated nursing faculty, NCLEX test preparation services, and employment support. Through these programs, students will train to work in a variety of health care settings, such as: nursing and residential care facilities; hospitals at the state, local, and private level; offices of physicians; and home health care services.
"We are thrilled to offer a pathway for Nevada LPNs to become RNs at our Reno Campus," said Janis Paulson, Chief Executive Officer at Unitek College. "This is a big step forward for Unitek as we continue to educate the next generation of nurses."
