Back2Basics Long-term Sober Living Program Celebrates Four Years
Flagstaff, AZ (PRWEB) May 31, 2014 -- This May marked four years in business for Back2Basics Outdoor Adventures, a niche drug rehab and alcohol treatment center program in Flagstaff, AZ that supports young male addicts in establishing themselves both mentally and physically during early sobriety.
“We couldn’t stay open this long without having good outcomes,” said Roy Duprez, founder and CEO of Back2Basics. "We were this mom and pop program out of one house, now we have several houses, staff of 25 people – that’s where [Back2Basics] had a great foundation, and we are continually building on that.”
Back2Basics Residential Supervisor Chase Christensen attributes the program’s high success rate in residents – continued sobriety post program – to the longevity of the program.
“Long-term recovery requires coping skills to deal with life on life's terms. The residential and transition program help prepare our residents by showing them a better way to live,” said Christensen.
Addicts who complete the first six months of the residential program have the choice to continue on to six more months of transition, called Beyond the Basics.
“Since January of this year, 100% of our residents have continued on to transition through Beyond the Basics,” said DuPrez.
What makes Back2Basics such a unique addiction program is the outdoor adventure component, which helps residents build confidence, mental and physical strength, work as a group and connect with nature.
“Often times residents have dealt with outdoor stresses by abusing drugs and alcohol,” said Bob Baronas, Back2Basics outdoor guide. “The outdoors puts them in a real stressful environment without the drugs to fall back on.”
Upcoming spring and summer outdoor adventures include rafting in the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon, kayaking on the San Juan River and exploring alpine habitats that were covered in snow over the winter.
“The staff and therapists that work here have an incredible drive and desire to help others,” said Christensen. “Without the ideas we would not be here, and without the love and dedication many, including myself, might still be out there struggling to find our way.”
