Backtracks, the leading technology infrastructure platform for end-to-end podcast management, advertising and data analytics, today announces the availability of a new superior audio user experience powered by the Backtracks Player. With the Backtracks Player, publishers and podcasts can embed a beautifully designed, customizable on-brand podcast player with powerful features directly on their sites, properties, and social media.

Floating Mode Creates a Seamless, Responsive and On-brand Listening Experience

The Backtracks Player’s floating mode, which integrates directly with the Apple platform, enables podcast publishers to deliver breakthrough listening experiences. The player appears on screen with the publisher’s branding while allowing the user to navigate to other sites and have an uninterrupted and consistent audio experience, as it floats above and outside the browser window and even above apps on iOS devices as part of the desktop.

The Backtracks Player’s onsite floating mode allows listeners to experience audio via an always-on player that scrolls and adjusts with the listener while on the same page, as well as an offsite floating mode, allowing listeners to navigate between pages and sites without missing a beat or word of the story. This includes rendering capabilities within Apple News and social media platforms such as Twitter, Reddit and others.

Furthermore, users can start listening to audio from the publisher’s site using a web browser and have long-form, uninterrupted listening sessions without having to launch or open an application. Publishers may use the Backtracks Player to embed any audio including more than 25 million existing podcast episodes from the Backtracks data index.

“The Backtracks Player is the latest innovation in our mission to continuously deliver new and innovative audio and podcast technologies,” said Jonathan Gill, Founder and CEO, Backtracks. “The introduction of the offsite and onsite floating modes represents the next generation in audio user experience capabilities for podcast publishers and listeners. It not only does justice to publishers’ and podcasters’ content, but enhances it to truly deliver a breakthrough listening experience.”

Availability and Compatibility

The Apple platform integrated floating mode for the Backtracks Player is available to publishers of audio content and podcasts today. Offsite floating mode requires Safari 13.1 and macOS Catalina or newer for desktops, laptops, and workstations. Offsite floating mode requires Safari 14 or greater on iPhone or iPad. Additional customization options are available to Premium and Platinum Backtracks partners.

Additional Innovative Capabilities Built into the Backtracks Player

The Backtracks Player is compatible with any podcast, any site, and any hosting provider and packed with a number of powerful custom features and technologies, including:

  • Ability to share segments of audio without editing
  • Ability to stream or share to Apple AirPlay enabled devices like Apple TV and Apple HomePod
  • Recall of listening position
  • Privacy-first with no personally identifiable information or cookies

“The Backtracks Player is fully responsive and customizable, easily enables the ability to share specific audio segments, and allows publishers and podcasters to understand and engage their listeners without compromising data privacy,” added Gill. “It is on these pillars of innovation and cookieless-based targeting on which the future of podcasting will be built.”
