Number One Capability Gap identified by IFAFRI is Real-time Tracking of First Responders
LOS ANGELES, May 10, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Balboa Geolocation, Inc (Balboa Geo) is pleased to announce it has been invited to present its POINTER technology for real-time tracking of first responders and other critical assets at the IFAFRI Technology Showcase on May 10, 2023. Balboa Geo will conduct a virtual presentation and technical description of its POINTER technology – hardware, proprietary algorithms, and software-as-a-service (SaaS) to IFAFRI members consisting of 15 countries and the European Commission. This will include senior government officials, technology experts, and representatives from the global first responder community.
POINTER provides real-time Position, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) in GPS-denied and degraded environments. This includes real-time tracking of individuals and high value assets indoors, underground, and underwater where most other PNT techniques fail. "We are honored to participate in IFAFRI's Technology Showcase which will exclusively focus on the POINTER technology and benefits to first responders in the global marketplace. Real-time tracking in GPS-denied and degraded environments of first responders remains the number one priority identified by IFAFRI. POINTER was designed to fulfill this significant unmet need, stated Joseph A. Boystak, Executive Chairman & Co-Founder. We look forward to providing the POINTER technology to many of the IFAFRI member countries which we believe will help save lives, time, and money," Boystak further noted.
"The United States Department of Homeland Security was instrumental in organizing IFAFRI and its focus on requirements and R&D to develop cutting edge technologies for the international first responder community. Many of the requirements identified by the international community, like the need for real-time PNT, overlap with the requirements identified by the US Department of Homeland Security's First Responders Resource Group. The overlap validates the need for a worldwide market of new first responder technologies that address the evolving challenges all first responders are faced with daily," stated Greg Price, Chairman, Balboa Geo's Voice of the Customer Advisory Board (VCAB).

The Forum focuses on enhancing and expanding the development of technologies to improving first responder safety, efficiency, and effectiveness. The goal for IFAFRI is by influencing the global market to develop affordable, innovative solutions for first responders.
IFAFRI incentivizes the development of technologies for first responders by:
- Working with the global first responder community to define a list of common, high priority capability gaps https://www.internationalresponderforum.org/capability-gaps-overview
- Providing a platform for international collaboration on innovative research and development (R&D) initiatives and solutions
- Characterizing the global first responder markets, to inform and guide industry and academia about market opportunities
- Providing information about relevant and available technologies to the first responder community
In order to fulfil its mission IFAFRI has established 3 permanent working committees:
- Capability Gaps Committee: Analyzes, organizes, and prioritizes a list of Common Global Capability Gaps to help characterize current and future technology requirements for first responders
- Research & Development Committee: Provides industry and academia with information to initiate development of relevant solutions for the capability gaps
- Stakeholder Engagement Committee: Cultivates IFAFRI's relationships with first responders and contacts in industry and academia to advance the goals of IFAFRI.
About Balboa Geolocation
Balboa Geo is an industrial technology company focused on solutions for the global Position, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) market for GPS-denied or degraded environments. POINTER consists of easily deployed hardware (Transmitter (TX), Receiver (RX), and Base Station (BX) - laptop or tablet) proprietary algorithms, and software-as-a-service (SaaS) serving Public Safety, Defense, Industrial and Commercial sectors. POINTER can be deployed on a fixed or mobile basis. POINTER is not dependent on fixed infrastructure, such as satellites or cell towers to enable its real-time PNT data. POINTER leverages patented Magneto-Electro-Quasi-Static ("M/EQS") technology. It can provide highly accurate (within centimeters) 3-D ("xyz" axis), real-time data for indoor, underground, underwater, and metallic environments where most other PNT techniques fail. POINTER can be easily integrated with other geospatial technologies for comprehensive and redundant PNT solutions in most environments. The geospatial data derived from POINTER is highly interoperable. Real-time data is displayed on Balboa Geo's proprietary visualization software or may be ingested by other third-party software platforms providing a comprehensive view of target environments. POINTER is designed to save lives, track high value assets, improve workflows and productivity, enable post-event analytics for training and education, and provide support for litigation and forensic analysis. POINTER was developed by Caltech / NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab (JPL) and exclusively licensed by Balboa Geo for all fields of use on a global scale. POINTER is expected to be commercially available by the end of 2023.
