Balfour Introduces Fully-Integrated Yearbook Curriculum
Austin, Texas (PRWEB) February 13, 2014 -- This week Balfour announced an innovative resource for yearbook teachers and advisers: the Balfour Yearbook Curriculum. This 11-week curriculum includes everything advisers need to teach and assess their yearbook students. Each lesson includes Common Core standards and the lesson’s focus or objective. The instructional sequence directs the teacher through lessons that include both guided activities and independent practice. At the end of each unit, assessments are provided to measure students’ progress. Printed and online resources, such as handouts, worksheets and slideshows, supplement classroom instruction. This resource is the only product specific to yearbook instruction and aligned with Common Core Standards.
“Balfour’s Yearbook Curriculum is unique in its magnitude and scope,” said Mike Cobb, Director of Marketing for Balfour. “Yearbook teachers across the country expressed a genuine need for better curricular materials, based on today’s classroom standards. The emergence of the Common Core Standards served to intensify that need.”
The instructional units were developed with Common Core standards in mind, and provide fresh instructional material for today’s yearbook class. Yearbook advisers can rest assured that they are meeting the most recent classroom directives.
Common Core Standards are led by the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) and the National Governors Association (NGA). The Core was created to ensure that American high school graduates receive an education that prepares them for either higher education or direct entry into the workforce. The intent is to transform teaching and raise student achievement with less memorization and more application. Forty-five states, the District of Columbia, four territories, and the Department of Defense Education Activity have adopted the Common Core State Standards.
