Bangkok Conference Fails on Green Finance while Porto Climate Science Conference Shows CO2 is Not the Main Driver of Climate Change says Friends of Science
CALGARY, Canada (PRWEB) September 12, 2018 -- As reported by The Guardian, Sept. 10, 2018, governments squabbled over the $100 billion in green climate finance, making little progress on the Paris Agreement to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, while in Porto, Portugal, at the Basic Science of a Changing Climate, held at the University of Porto, September 7-8, 2018, over 100 scientific experts convened to share research that shows that carbon dioxide is not the main driver of climate change, says Friends of Science Society.
As predicted by Ottawa energy policy consultant, Robert Lyman, in a Friends of Science blog post of June 4, 2017, without the US in the Paris Agreement, the Green Climate Fund will founder.
As posted on the Porto conference web-site, in an open letter to the Rector of Porto University, (scroll down within link) a group of academics attempted to stop the climate science conference in a letter that conference organizers say is a modern-day equivalent of the Portuguese Inquisition. The Faculty Dean opened the session and spoke out forcefully in favor of academic freedom and scientific inquiry.
The first scientific presentation was by Christopher Essex, Professor of Applied Mathematics at Canada’s University of Western Ontario. Essex is the award-winning co-author of the book "Taken by Storm" - which questions the science and politics of climate change dogma.
Presenters at the Basic Science of a Changing Climate scientifically and systematically skewered the idea that human efforts to maintain a 2-degree Celsius target through ‘decarbonization’ in order to control global warming is delusional. Prior to substantial use of fossil fuels, proxy records show large changes in temperatures, climate patterns and carbon dioxide concentrations, uncorrelated to each other.
Predictably, in a blog post of Sept. 4, 2018, DeSmogUK, attacked the Santander bank, which is a general sponsor of Porto University programs, attempting to shred the bank’s reputation.
Signatories to the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment, like Santander, are vulnerable to this type of coercive attack, says Friends of Science Society. The transnational, unelected, unaccountable UNPRI organization displays exceptional, unscientific groupthink to ‘champion climate action’ on the issue of climate change and carbon dioxide. Friends of Science Society questions the conflicts of interests of founding signatories of the UNPRI, which include the Canada Pension Plan, the UN Joint Staff Pension Fund, Al Gore’s Generation Investment Management LLP, Caisse de Depot et Placement du Quebec, to name a few, along with the Universities Superannuation Scheme. Friends of Science Society says this suggests that global academic and public servant pension funds, and other institutional investments are skewing world markets, demonizing hydrocarbon investments in favour of support for non-performing renewables, thanks to UNPRI's unscientific groupthink on climate change.
“Through this UNPRI channel, it appears that academia and governments are complicit in the climate change inquisition strategies, attempting to silence qualified voices whose research challenges ‘the consensus’,” says Michelle Stirling, Communications Manager for Friends of Science Society. “Someone should investigate these obvious conflicts of interest.”
It is unclear to what extent the multi-million-dollar ClimateWorks Foundation “Design to Win” campaign may have influenced the UNPRI or the investment-associated, GHG reporting ‘charity,’ CDP Worldwide, UNEP Finance Initiative or UN Global Compact. Friends of Science Society says climate systems are dynamic and chaotic, but overall the sun is the main driver of climate change on earth, through its multiplicity of cycles and diverse effects on earth systems.
About
Friends of Science Society is an independent group of earth, atmospheric and solar scientists, engineers, and citizens who are celebrating its 16th year of offering climate science insights. After a thorough review of a broad spectrum of literature on climate change, Friends of Science Society has concluded that the sun is the main driver of climate change, not carbon dioxide (CO2).
