Basketball Legend USC Coach and UCLA Player Henry Bibby Inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame
Basketball Legend USC Coach and UCLA Player Henry Bibby will be inducted into the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame in April 2022.
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 24, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Basketball Legend USC Coach and UCLA Player Henry Bibby will be inducted into the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame. He will join a prestigious list of 2022 inductees that will be enshrined during the 58th annual induction banquet on the evening of Friday, April 22, 2022, at the Raleigh Convention Center.
A native of Franklinton, North Carolina, Bibby was the starting point guard on UCLA men's basketball teams that won three straight NCAA championships in the early 1970's, averaging 14.4 points per game for his career with the Bruins earning first-team all-American honors. He played nine seasons in the NBA, winning a title with the New York Knicks. As a coach at USC, he led the Trojans' 1997, 2001, and 2002 teams to the NCAA tournament, including an "Elite Eight" appearance in 2001. Bibby coached the celebrated basketball star Lisa Leslie as head coach of the Los Angeles Sparks WNBA. A winning assistant coach Memphis Grizzlies, and the Detroit Pistons in the NBA.

Over many years Bibby has given his time to youth programs with local charities and organizations including basketball camps for kids to help underserved and homeless children while promoting self-esteem, togetherness, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

The 2022 induction class' new members, listed alphabetically, include Luke Appling, Missouri Arledge, Ronnie Barnes, Henry Bibby, Dan Brooks, Torry Holt, Sam Mills, Timmy Newsome, Dave Robbins, and Tom Suiter. The NC Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1963. A permanent gallery, the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame is located on the third floor of the NC Museum of History in Raleigh and features significant objects and memorabilia donated by inductees.
