While hard to believe, with less than six weeks to go before the start of the 2019 hurricane season, our nation's leaders have still not come together to send assistance to the Florida Panhandle communities that were devastated by Hurricane Michael...More than 200 days after Hurricane Michael, Congress has still not passed a disaster relief bill!
To make matters worse, on April 19, 2019, scientists at NOAA's National Hurricane Center announced that Hurricane Michael had been upgraded to a Category 5 at time of its U.S. landfall on October 10, 2018. It was the first Category 5 hurricane to strike the contiguous United States since Andrew in 1992, the 10th-costliest Atlantic hurricane, and was directly responsible for 16 deaths and about $25 billion in damage.
The day after Hurricane Michael hit, James and Marta Batmasian announced that the James H and Marta T Batmasian Family Foundation would be donating to recovery and relief efforts for those in the Gulf Coast region who were significantly affected by devastating Hurricane Michael and, as always, they made good on that promise.
It was not the first time that the Batmasians, owners of the real estate firm Investments Limited, donated to recovery and relief efforts in the wake of natural disasters. As far back as 2005, in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the Batmasians relocated well over 30 families from New Orleans to South Florida. These families had absolutely nothing left, and nowhere to go. Jim and Marta, gave them rent-free housing, furniture, clothing, food, etc., and helped them find jobs, get their kids in school and virtually rebuild their lives from scratch.
