BOSTON (PRWEB) August 14, 2018 -- Boston Children’s Museum and NE FIRST are pleased to announce an expanded partnership for this year’s Boston Mini Maker Faire. The event will be held for two days on October 6th & 7th, 2018, inside and outside Boston Children’s Museum on Fort Point Channel.
“We are thrilled that NE FIRST, the New England partner of FIRST, will join us to share their kid-friendly activities and robots at the Boston Mini Maker Faire,” said Cora Carey, STEAM and Maker Project Manager at Boston Children’s Museum. “FIRST Robotics is a global leader in providing STEM opportunities for kids around the world, and it all started right here in New England, so it’s a perfect fit for us.”
NE FIRST is part of FIRST, based in Manchester, NH, founded with the vision to create a world where young people dream of becoming science and technology leaders through an “athletics for the mind” platform. NE FIRST provides accessible, innovative robotics programs that motivate young people to pursue education and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math, while building self-confidence, knowledge, and life skills. NE FIRST administers a K-12 educational continuum focused on interactive learning, problem solving, team building, life skills and STEM.
“Showing kids how much fun they can have by building moveable Lego projects and competitive robots is part of the exciting work we do,” said Bruce Linton, Executive Director, NE FIRST. “Our demonstration at Boston Children’s Museum will give visitors a chance to see all levels of our program in action, from the FIRST Lego League to the FIRST Robotics Competition.”
NE FIRST has participated in the Boston Mini Maker Faire for the past two years. This year, they are a featured partner showcasing the robotics projects of students from around New England; hosting activities and exhibits that include live robotics competitions, coding demonstrations and teaching visitors to drive robots.
Maker Faire is the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth—a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the maker movement. It’s a place where people show what they are making and share what they are learning. Makers range from tech enthusiasts to crafters to homesteaders to scientists to garage tinkerers. They are of all ages and backgrounds. The aim of Maker Faire is to entertain, inform, connect and support this community of makers and their inventive spirit.
The original Maker Faire event was held in San Mateo, CA and in 2018 celebrated its thirteenth annual show with some 900 makers and 90,000 people in attendance. World Maker Faire New York, the other flagship event, has grown in six years to 900+ makers and 95,000 attendees. Forty larger scale Maker Faires occur in cities around the world—Berlin, Paris, Rome, Tokyo, and Shenzhen to name a few—and over 170 community-driven, independently organized Mini Maker Faires are now being produced in the United States and 40 other countries around the world.
Boston Mini Maker Faire is independently organized by Boston Children’s Museum and operated under license from Maker Media, Inc.
