Beautiful Dome Makes Louisville Community a Safer Place During Tornadoes
In 2014 ten people were killed by a tornado that struck near the city of Louisville. In a proactive effort to prevent future deaths from tornados, the city of Louisville partnered with FEMA, South Industries, and others to build a dome community storm shelter. This shelter was affordable, built quickly, and meets the needs of the community.
LOUISVILLE, Miss., April 16, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- In a response to the tornado that took ten lives in 2014 South Industries has teamed up with JBHM Architecture, Burks Mordecai Builders, The City of Louisville, and Broaddus & Associates to construct a FEMA safe room and community storm shelter. The 12,000 square foot building will provide shelter for more than, 2000 people during a storm event. The community is also developing an app based alert system to inform community members when threats exist. Due to the important purpose of the community storm shelter FEMA and the state level counterpart, MEMA provided about 85 percent of the funding for the construction of the building.

Construction started on the Louisville community storm shelter during August of 2018.
