BOGOTA, Colombia, Oct. 2, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Belatrix Software, a leading software development company, together with Globant, welcomed hundreds of software developers and technology enthusiasts to the latest edition of the Hackatrix hackathon. Belatrix has held these hackathons throughout Latin America, from Peru, Buenos Aires, Mendoza, to this edition which was held in Bogotá Colombia.
More than 45 teams participated and were tasked to come up with an idea and prototype which could have a positive impact on society. As in previous editions of the hackathon, teams were evaluated on innovation and popularity. The winning team in the innovation category developed a prototype of a platform that could help cities coordinate the donation of food from restaurants that could be offered to people in need. The winning team in the popularity category came up with the idea of a mobile application that could help students in higher education find short-term employment.
Additional ideas and technologies at the event included:
- Web and mobile-based platforms to help with everything from providing people with legal advice in their moment of need, providing farmers and growers a way to connect directly with their target markets, helping refugees, to improving how the city of Bogotá handles its recycling. For example, one team worked on a blockchain-based platform to manage, validate and trace pension contributions.
- Key themes in the event included health and wellbeing, sustainability and climate change, micro-finance, education, and helping the most vulnerable and in-need of society.
One of the organizers of the event, Belatrix's Paulina Ibarra, and member of the Hackatrix committee commented: "This was an incredible event.
