BOSTON (PRWEB) November 04, 2019
Benefits Science Technologies (BST) names Dr. Omid Nohadani as its Data Science Lead. Nohadani brings his considerable knowledge of algorithms, optimization, machine learning, and high-performance computing, with extensive modeling and programming experience, to the challenge of solving complex healthcare problems.
“We are excited to have Omid join the BST team,” said Stephen Sofoul, MBA, CEO & President. “His considerable experience in predictive and robust analytics has direct application to our mission to maintain industry-leading capabilities in health plan optimization, disease prediction, risk scoring, underwriting, re-tiering, and reporting.”
Nohadani earned his MS degree in physics from the University of Bonn, Germany and a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Southern California. He then joined MIT’s Operations Research Center as a postdoctoral fellow, developing complex optimization algorithms. Nohadani also served as a research fellow and instructor at the Department of Radiation Oncology at Harvard Medical School’s Massachusetts General Hospital, where he conducted mathematical research on cancer treatment. He later joined the faculty at Purdue University in Indiana. Just prior to joining BST, Nohadani was an Associate Professor of Industrial Engineering and Management Sciences at Northwestern University in Illinois. He has authored many journal publications in prestigious academic journals. Nohadani and his family currently reside in Boston, Mass.
“Over the years, my main research interests have been in optimization and machine learning in environments affected by uncertainty and/or subjected to sophisticated risk measures,” said Nohadani. “BST’s technology utilizes many of these disciplines and I am excited to continue advancing these innovations at the largest scale, which is the US health system.”
About Benefits Science Technologies
BST provides data analytics software/analysis to employers and consultants to help manage the risk of self-funded health plans. Plan holders improve their connection to data, empowering optimal decisions to control costs, and improve the quality of care for plan members.
Founded in 2012, the company is recognized as a world-leading research and applied science team, applying advanced analytics and Robust Optimization to complex health insurance decisions. Led by a 30-year MIT professor and Co-Director of the Operations Research Center, the MIT-trained team combines world-class technical knowledge and practical financial experience.
A powerful and unique feature of the platform lies in its ability to provide prescriptive recommendations. The company’s Health Plan Optimizer designs optimal health plan configurations while obeying overall premium, business quality, and other plan owner-specified criteria. These tools enable consultants/brokers and employers to model “what if” scenarios for plan configuration, including stop-loss and supplemental plan design. BST delivers timely, customized business intelligence, tailored to the specific healthcare needs of the group, empowering decision-makers to maximize every healthcare dollar. The company is headquartered in Boston, MA, with offices in Atlanta, GA, and Houston, TX.
