Better Homes & Gardens Real Estate Helps Salvation Army Fill its Red Kettles
Brokers from Better Homes & Gardens Real Estate brought a lot of unexpected attention to the Salvation Army as they volunteered for bell-ringing duties at the Happy Valley Fred Meyer.
HAPPY VALLEY, Ore., Dec. 11, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Salvation Army encourages volunteer bell ringers to play an instrument, sing Christmas carols, or dance to draw shoppers into their red kettles for a donation. Local Happy Valley Realtor Patrick Sheehan took it to a whole new level. For two hours, Sheehan solicited donations dressed in costume and makeup of Gene Simmons' stage persona from KISS.
"We're doing everything we can to draw people in, make them smile, and get them to open their wallets," said Sheehan. "A 6' 8" Gene Simmons look-alike is the last thing people expect to see ringing bells for the Salvation Army – and it worked great!"
Shoppers stopped to take photos with Sheehan and drop money into the signature Salvation Army red kettle. Ten other Realtors from Better Homes and Gardens took turns finishing out the day's shifts in Santa outfits and ugly Christmas sweaters.
A typical daily goal for this location is to raise $400 per kettle. Sheehan and his colleagues raised $725, nearly double the goal of the day.
"The Salvation Army is near and dear to me," concluded Sheehan, who has served on their Portland Metro advisory board since 2011. "What goes into the kettles today provides year-round shelter from homelessness, hunger and violence. The red kettles are our biggest fundraiser of the year."
