Bill Boushka Releases Third Book of His Do Ask, Do Tell Series
Arlington, Va. (PRWEB) April 25, 2014 -- From 1993 to 2010, “don’t ask, don’t tell” was the Army’s official policy regarding homosexuality in the Armed Forces. Within this policy’s constraints against homosexuals, author Bill Boushka saw a mirror of his own life. “Do Ask, Do Tell: Speech Is a Fundamental Right; Being Listened to Is a Privilege” (published by Xlibris), the third of Boushka’s Do Ask, Do Tell series, examines individualism and family responsibility.
Boushka tackles the two-faced aspects of individualism. He states that individualism leads to progress and innovation and is encouraged by American society. According to Boushka, though, this individualism is dependent on inequality. This irony is what creates instability in society.
He also writes of family responsibility and family values as they pertain to this individualism within society. Family responsibility is sometimes thrust upon individuals. Situations arise where family members must take care of an elderly relative or a family member’s children. Boushka comments on these roles from his unique perspective.

“In sum, what are the ‘rules’ for someone like me? Here’s a compact take on the question. I wind up with a definite sense of what is expected of someone in my ‘position’ or ‘situation.’ The rules are like this: Accept the fact that ‘you’ depend on others in ways you don’t see. Don’t draw undue attention to yourself. Do what others want. Don’t make too much of your own ideas or plans. (I wonder, if my own ‘purpose’ isn’t respected, why should I be around or be loved? But watch what happens next.) Since ‘we’ loved you, then learn to love others whom you might otherwise perceive as ‘beneath’ you – and find satisfaction in doing so.”

About the Author
Bill Boushka was born in 1943 in Arlington, Va. He was expelled from college in 1961 for being a homosexual. Nevertheless, he graduated from another university and earned a master’s degree in mathematics. He was drafted in 1968. The “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy in 1993 motivated the writing of his first book “Do Ask, Do Tell: A Gay Conservative Lashes Back” and its follow-up “Do Ask, Do Tell: When Liberty Is Stressed.”
