Birmingham Maple Clinic Recognizes National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month
Birmingham, MI (PRWEB) July 12, 2013 -- The Birmingham Maple Clinic recently reported that July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about severe mental illness in diverse communities, while highlighting avenues for wellness and recovery. Lori Edelson, LMSW, LMFT, therapist at the Birmingham Maple Clinic said, “When it comes to mental health care and minorities in the US, the statistics don’t lie. The Surgeon General reports that minorities have less access to and less availability of mental health services, and often receive lesser quality mental health care. This is a sad reminder that many individuals in this country do not have access to the mental health resources they so desperately need.”
As reported by the clinic, which employs over 39 expert therapists and professional staff from a wide variety of cultures and professional backgrounds, this year’s events hope to raise awareness for the continued need for improved mental health support in diverse communities.
