Robert Gardner Law Announces Resource Site for Patients Prescribed Zofran During Pregnancy
Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) March 31, 2015 -- A new legal resource site has been established to aid patients and family members who may have been prescribed Zofran, or it’s generic versions of Ondansetron, during pregnancy for morning sickness. The site was created in response to the plea agreement* reached for the conviction of GlaxoSmithKline in C.A. No. 11-10398-RWZ, filed with the United States District Court of Massachusetts.
The Toronto Star reports that this case alleged that GlaxoSmithKline gave doctors kickbacks to prescribe the drug for morning sickness and disseminated false information about Zofran’s safety and effectiveness. According to this case, Zofran, the name brand version of Ondansetron, is approved by the FDA only for postoperative nausea and was not approved for the treatment of morning sickness in pregnant women.
The U.S. Justice department has announced $3 billion in penalties following a plea agreement with GlaxoSmithKline, the British drugmaker of Zofran. The New Hampshire Union Leader news report states that GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) promoted Zofran for off-label uses, which means to treat illnesses not approved by the FDA.
“There are a lot of reasons to be concerned about the legitimacy of treatment and the fees that may have been charged during the course of a pregnancy,” said Robert Gardner.
