SAN MATEO, Calif., Nov. 8, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- San Mateo based Bloom Dental Group, an innovative Dental Care Provider company, has partnered with IsraAID – a leading non-governmental organization serving disaster zones across the globe to create a team to treat refugees in Kenya. The journey was a 9-day dental clinic at Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya.
Kenya has taken in approximately 500,000 refugees from neighboring regions presently in crisis, including Ethiopia, Somalia, and South Sudan. Just under 185,00 individuals reside in the Kakuma refugee camp in the north-west of the region. People in the camp are frequently undernourished and suffer from insufficient health care. Dr. Lior Tamir is working on behalf of the Bloom Dental Group and in cooperation with the IsraAID to conduct an intensive dental clinic at the refugee camp. The team will perform everything from routine check-ups to filings as well as surgeries while they are in the location.
Dr. Lior Tamir, arrived on July 2 to Kakuma Refugee Camp to start treating the refugees. The visiting physicians will cure patients in the clinic which is sponsored by the Koret Foundation. The camp will also be supplemented with over $26,000 oral health care products and supplies which are donated by the global distributor Henry Schein. IsraAid also purchased more than $50,00 of specialized dental care equipment to jump-start their dental clinic and helped them serve the population of Kakuma.
According to the statement of Yotam Polizer, co-CEO of IsraAID, "For many of the refugees it will be the first time in their life that they are receiving dental treatment. I think what's unique about this program is that dental care is not something we usually think about when we think of humanitarian aid. We can really make thousands of people's lives a lot better in a relatively simple operation."
The lack of access to sufficient oral hygiene education and dental care is a huge problem which affects the lives of the refugees in the Kakum camp and other parts of the world. As the figures of displaced individuals across the globe increases to over 68 million, the strain on medical and dental services for refugees are more likely to grow.
Just recently, IsraAID sent a medical delegation of US-based pediatricians to Kakuma camp last May. This collaboration with Bloom Dental is something that both organizations are looking forward to.
