Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer Celebrates 20th Anniversary With Annual Fundraiser, May 6-12, 2019
Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer, dedicated to raising funds for breast cancer research since 1999, is excited to celebrate its 20th anniversary during its annual May 6-12, 2019 fundraiser. For twenty years, local restaurants, bakeries, and retail stores have participated in this event by offering a special dessert or sweet, funds from which support breast cancer research. This year's monies will benefit the research of Dr. Rachel Freedman, MD, MPH, a prominent physician researcher at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

For twenty years, local restaurants, bakeries, and retail stores have participated in this event by offering a special dessert or sweet, funds from which support breast cancer research. This year's monies will benefit the research of Dr. Rachel Freedman, MD, MPH, a prominent physician researcher at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Twenty years ago, Carol Sneider, Founder and President of Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer, set out to create a simple event so that anyone could make a difference in the fight against breast cancer. "What began with 42 pastry chefs committed to donating their culinary creations to raise money for breast cancer research, has grown to over 250 of Boston's favorite dining spots and shops participating in our annual event," notes Sneider. "During one week, anyone can help raise much needed funds simply by ordering dessert or purchasing a sweet at one or more of our participating locations – it's that easy," Sneider adds.
Artisan Bistro at and The Ritz-Carlton, Boston has been participating in Boston Bakes almost since day one. "Our talented pastry team creates a delicious, custom dessert for this organization and our guests, and they have lots of fun doing so," shares Bill Bunce, General Manager, The Ritz-Carlton, Boston. "Our guests are incredibly enthusiastic to support such a worthwhile cause every May," adds Bunce. "We're honored to take part in Boston Bakes, especially this year as the organization celebrates twenty sweet years of helping to fight breast cancer."

"As the availability of government and foundation-based funding has become increasingly scarce on a national level, researchers like me, who are struggling to develop clinical trials for older patients - an area of research that has been vastly under subsidized - are so appreciative of this support," notes Dr. Freedman.
This year's event will be dedicated to the memory of Cristina Moniz-Baltatzidis, a friend and longtime supporter of Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer.
