KidStage Theater Poster Displays to be Unveiled June 30th at the Museum
BOSTON, June 15, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Boston Children's Museum announces the visual artists selected to participate in the inaugural KidStage Theater poster design mini-commission. KidStage is a kid-sized theater designed to introduce children to the world of performing arts, giving them the chance to experience the wonders of the stage. Actors, musicians, dancers, and Museum staff can often be found in KidStage performing theater shows, singing songs, playing music, dancing, and inviting visitors to join in.
Since reopening after the pandemic, the Museum has focused on bringing many new programs to the theater showcasing more artists and organizations. These newly commissioned posters are intended to display the increased depth and breadth of the experiences offered in KidStage.

"These vibrant pieces bring an updated atmosphere and energy to today's KidStage and going forward will offer local artists a new opportunity and platform to share their art with the City of Boston."
The Museum put out a city-wide call for artists with the guidelines of creating new art that is unique, colorful, reflects the range of arts programming in KidStage, and is geared for children and family audiences. The Museum received over 60 submissions. From these, ten finalists were chosen, and an internal review group voted to select the four final artists. Each of the selected artists' work across different mediums provides a unique approach and interpretation of the guidelines. The four selected artists include:
- Vita Lane from Dover, New Hampshire is an award-winning book designer, graphic designer, illustrator, and art director. She has been an artist her entire life and has done creative work with clients in publishing, manufacturing, education, fashion, music, the bridal industry, museums and more, in both the adult and children's markets, with businesses ranging from small to extra-large.
- Nile Hennick is 12 years old and lives in Milton, Massachusetts. Nile creates fun, lively, comic book cartoon characters who live in Boston and loves to make art for other kids to enjoy. Nile has sold his comic books at conventions like Fan Expo Boston and the Massachusetts Independent Comics Expo.
- Yu Cheng lives in Medford, Massachusetts and grew up in China. She is enrolled in a graduate program at SMFA, Tufts. Yu has been an artist for more than 10 years. Oil painting serves as her primary medium of expression, with artistic inspiration stemming from the nuances of everyday life and its seemingly ordinary moments. The symbolism of the work Yu created for this project resonates with the need for diverse perspectives and cooperation in society.
- Zoe Schein from Roslindale, Massachusetts is a teaching artist, freelance illustrator, and cartoonist who grew up in Central Illinois. As a teacher, Zoe creates and teaches classes in drawing, comics, art history, and memoir writing for students of all ages. They works primarily in informal and non-traditional educational settings such as after school programs, community organizations, libraries, and is passionate about teaching.
The KidStage poster unveiling will be Friday, June 30 at 12:00pm for guests and media. The general public can view the KidStage posters after the unveiling with paid Museum admission.

Hours and Admission
The Museum is open Wednesday – Sunday with two set daily time slots, 9:00am-12:00pm and 1:30-4:30pm. To reduce touchpoints and enable timed visits, all ticketing will be done online. Members must also make reservations online. There are a limited number of visitor reservations available for each time slot. Adults, $20, children (1-15) and senior citizens, $20; children under 12 months and Museum members are always free.
