The must-read history of Staten Island
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (PRWEB) July 03, 2019
Boulevard Books releases “Our Staten Island” by Janet Medoro, a book that chronicles some of the history that a brother and sister learned in their relentless reach to understand the borough into which they were born. As fourth-generation Islanders, the motivation to pursue that interest came early on from a book of their grandfather’s that contained captivating photos of ancient homes. They watered the seeds of their innate sense of history in general, and as adults, realized that more answers lay within the walls of libraries, archives and the local newspaper. The thrill of the chase was on in capital letters, and that chase became a journey and an eight-chapter story unto itself that needed to be told!
Sunnyside was the author’s first home town; a gentle community of modest homes amid a park and golf course – with no pretensions attached. From there, Our Lady of Good Counsel elementary school and St. Peter’s High School for Girls provided the basics of education. Any interest in a career that leaned toward history was supplanted by the spiritual call to nursing, received at Kings County Hospital Center School of Nursing in Brooklyn, New York. A forty-two year career ended with retirement to pursue the same interests she had in childhood: caring for home and family, gardening; and through the travels of life’s daily activities, understanding the travels through the history of “Our Staten Island” as well.
