Wisconsin AFL-CIO backs Smith as he campaigns for collective bargaining rights, the PRO Act, Buy America policies, and stronger protections for American workers.
MEQUON, Wis., Sept. 8, 2026 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Brad Smith, Democratic nominee for Congress in Wisconsin's 6th Congressional District, has earned the endorsement of the Wisconsin AFL-CIO.
"I'm incredibly proud to have the Wisconsin AFL-CIO and union members standing with our campaign," Smith said. "Unions have helped generations of Wisconsinites earn better wages, safer workplaces, good benefits and secure retirements. In Congress, I'll stand with workers and make sure the people doing the work have a real voice in our economy."
Smith has spoken about organized labor's impact on members of his own family, including relatives whose union jobs provided the wages, benefits and retirement security that helped them build stable middle-class lives.
"I've seen what a good union job can mean for an entire family," Smith said. "That security doesn't stop with one paycheck. It can help someone buy a home, raise children, retire with dignity and give the next generation opportunities they never had."
Smith supports passage of the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act and stronger collective bargaining protections. He opposes Right-to-Work laws that weaken unions and workers' bargaining power. His labor platform also includes protecting overtime pay, strengthening enforcement against wage theft and worker misclassification, supporting prevailing-wage requirements and Project Labor Agreements, and attaching strong labor standards to jobs created through taxpayer-funded projects. Smith supports Buy America requirements and expanded registered apprenticeship opportunities. He also supports stronger accountability for companies receiving taxpayer assistance, including measures intended to ensure public dollars support good-paying jobs in the United States rather than outsourcing or offshoring.
"For too long, the rules of our economy have tilted toward corporations and the wealthy while people who work for a living are asked to do more with less," Smith said. "We need an economy where a good job can pay for a home, support a family and provide a secure future. That's what I'll work toward in Congress."
Smith has also received support from labor and education organizations including: SMART Local 18, SEIU Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Education Association Council (WEAC) and National Education Association (NEA).
Smith is the Democratic nominee for Wisconsin's 6th Congressional District and will appear on the ballot in the November 3, 2026 general election.
