Branches, Inc. Celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in South Dade
Miami, FL (PRWEB) January 08, 2016 -- On Monday, January 18, 2016, Branches will celebrate and honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through a day of community service. Branches staff, its team of AmeriCorps members and over 250 volunteers will spend the day beautifying Florida City and South Miami through several painting, planting and other service projects.
Branches would also like to thank its partners for making this day of celebration possible: AmeriCorps, Branches United Methodist Church, The City of Florida City, Florida Power & Light, Mandarin United Methodist Church and Modern Woodmen of America.
Branches Florida City will celebrate its 6th Annual “Florida City, Love Yourself” on Monday, January 18th as over 150 volunteers will help beautify the Florida City community and revitalize 6 homes in the nearby area, helping Branches families in need on this special day. Volunteers will also work on various projects at Homestead Middle School and Florida City Elementary. The activities will take place from 7:30am-2pm at and around Branches Florida City, which is located at 129 SW 5th Avenue, Florida City. Breakfast, lunch and t-shirts will be provided.
Branches South Miami will host the 4th Annual “SoMi Lights” MLK Day of Service on Monday, January 18th from 8am-2pm as over 100 volunteers will help revitalize 3 homes in the nearby area. Other projects will include painting, landscaping in the children’s playground and building a butterfly garden around our site at Branches South Miami located at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church at 6316 SW 59th Place, South Miami. Breakfast, lunch and t-shirts will be provided.
In addition, on Saturday, February 13th Branches South Miami will once again host the 3rd Annual “MLK Remix” from 12pm-6pm at the Bethel-Gibson Community Center, 5800 SW 66th St., South Miami. MLK Remix will feature the South Miami MLK Parade in the morning followed by a free outdoor festival designed to promote peace and understanding in our community through education and the arts. The festival will include several live performances including kid-friendly hip-hop dance, karate, yoga and boot camp classes, as well as hands-on activities like arts & crafts. Children can also enjoy face painting and bounce houses.
