In “The Recruit: An Alpha Units Novel” (published by AuthorHouse), author Brandi Lynn Smith’s new action-packed novel, readers join protagonist Kate Richmond as she confronts an evil organization while trying to find her purpose in life.
Kate has spent the past seven years fighting against Blade, a gang that murdered her best friend. Fighting solo against an entire gang might sound a bit improbable, but Kate has a secret – she has what is called Power. This Power allows Kate to hear communication from other planets, see microscopic details, sense the outcome of scenarios and control others’ minds.
As she continues her fight against Blade, she must also keep her Power secret and safe from prying eyes. But, when an officer discovers her eyes changing colors, a telltale sign that individual has Power, Kate’s destiny begins to unfold. As her life takes twists and turns not even she could foresee, she must fight her inner demons and open herself up enough to trust her new comrades. The only question is: Will she be able to open up in time?
An excerpt from “The Recruit”:
“'Do these semis usually appear?’ No, 'Zach stated, looking at his watch for a reading on the vehicles. ‘Are the cars we’ve been moving around real or was everything a simulation?’ Kate asked, wondering why they hadn’t seen any of the other students on the road. ‘Everything is real, though we do have a way to avoid accidents if the students lose control.’ Zach’s watch beeped a response, causing his brows to furrow. ‘What is it?’ Zach shook his head as he answered, ‘These two semis shouldn’t be here.’ ‘I kinda got that based on your first reaction when we saw them. What aren’t you telling me?’ ‘You were right when you asked if we teleported to where we were. Normally we can end the test with the push of a button, but something isn’t letting me end the test.’”
